ATLANTA – Leading children’s dental provider Kool Smiles today announced a successful and record-breaking year of providing high-quality and compassionate dental care to underserved children and families. Kool Smiles doctors and staff brought smiles to nearly 2 million patients in 2017 while making a positive impact in their local communities through outreach programs and dental health education initiatives.

Here is a look at some of the 2017 highlights:

Kool Smiles doctors provided more than $18 million in uncompensated care to uninsured children and families in 2017. While Kool Smiles doctors are proud to accept a wide variety of insurance plans – including Medicaid and TRICARE – they also recognize that sometimes insurance does not cover needed services, and families may not be able to pay out of pocket for needed care. The uncompensated dental care program helps ensure Kool Smiles’ community children and families receive the dental care they need. National children’s dental provider Kool Smiles today announced more than four tons (8,594 pounds) of Halloween candy collected during its sixth annual Operation Troop Treats, the nation’s largest dentist-sponsored Halloween candy exchange benefiting U.S. service members and their families.

Designed to promote good dental health while giving deployed U.S. troops a “sweet” reminder of home during the holiday season, Operation Troop Treats is a partnership between Kool Smiles and Operation Gratitude that encourages children and families to exchange their Halloween candy for toys at participating Kool Smiles offices nationwide.

The donated candy is shipped in care packages to U.S. troops deployed overseas via Operation Gratitude, a 501(c)(3), volunteer-based organization that produces and sends care packages to U.S. service members deployed in harm’s way, their children, wounded heroes, veterans, new recruits and first responders.

Kool Smiles Donates $8,000 to Indiana University Dental Student Outreach Clinic

Kool Smiles, a leading provider of quality dental care for children and families in Indianapolis, recently donated $8,000 to the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) to expand service offerings at its Dental Student Outreach Clinic. The donation will help the clinic provide free root canals to Near Eastside adults in need.

The IUSD Dental Student Outreach Clinic opened in 2009 and is run by volunteer dentists, faculty and students from the dental school. The clinic helps an average of 20-25 patients every other Saturday and remains open for 11 months of the calendar year.

Many of the clinic’s patients who required root canals were previously unable to receive them due to cost barriers, faculty said.

“In the past, a lack of consistent funding made it difficult for patients to receive root canals, no matter how badly they needed them,” said Dr. Karen Yoder, a clinic faculty advisor. “We are pleased to finally be able to give members of the Near Eastside community convenient and sponsored access to this service.”

“Kool Smiles is proud to support the Student Dental Outreach …
