Seven years of data of paid dental claims from state Medicaid agencies across the U.S. and studies by outside experts show that when children see a Kool Smiles dentist before their third birthday, it creates significant cost savings for the Medicaid program and taxpayers, alike.
We’ve seen similar results with Kool Smiles’ participation in the Texas First Dental Home program. In 2012 alone, Texas saw significant cost savings when children had a first dental home visit before their third birthday.
A new, multi-year study by Dobson DaVanzo & Associates also demonstrates the cost effectiveness of care provided by Kool Smiles when compared to other Medicaid dental providers in Texas, Indiana, Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and South Carolina. Using publicly available Medicaid data from 2011 to 2015, the study found that Kool Smiles patients had an overall average monthly Medicaid expenditure that was 33 percent lower than non-Kool Smiles patients across all states and years analyzed.
If all Medicaid dental providers in these seven states adopted the same care protocol and utilization rates as Kool Smiles providers, the total savings to state Medicaid programs would be more than $550 million annually.
